This month I've partnered with Express and it's all about how we #ExpressLife. One way I Express Life is through how I dress. My style changes, just like me, and this outfit reflects my style perfectly right now. I love denim, neutral colors, and a solid pair of jeans is always a key staple in my wardrobe. This pair from Express is definitely my favorite.
Besides what’s hanging in my closet, I've also decided that this is the perfect time to get a little more personal than usual and reflect on where I'm at, where I've been, and where I hope to go.
The past few years, and especially this last year, has been filled with tons of growing pains for me. And I don't mean that in a negative way. Let's take it back a bit. Back to my younger years- I used to play it safe, I still do sometimes. Growing up I always got good grades, followed the rules, and did what I was told. But then suddenly you are an adult and no one is ushering you in a certain direction to do something. That day hits where there is no more hand holding and you have to make all the decisions yourself- oh boy is that scary.
As I've gotten older I've realized that growing up means growing confidence. I always say I wish I knew then what I know now. But that's just not reality. What I've learned is to not be afraid. Don't wait. The biggest rewards come from the biggest risks. Trial and error. I could go on for days.
What helped kick me out of my "play it safe" habit was surrounding myself with people that inspired me. These are the people that made me realize that nine times out of ten we don't do things because we're scared or don't think we're good enough. What I constantly repeat to myself is don't say no to anything. Let it say no to you. What's the worst that can happen?
The best thing I ever did was step out of my comfort zone and move to LA. I knew no one. I had no job. I had very little money. But I had a curiosity. As silly as that sounds I was intrigued about starting over and trying something completely new (sorry about that college tuition mom and dad). Now, I'm not telling you to drop everything and poor planning equals success, but I am saying that drive and motivation are.
As corny as it sounds, no one is going to give you the life you want other than yourself. As I sit here typing to you today, I can say for a fact that I am happier than I've ever been. But with that said, my life is far from perfect. Life is tricky, relationships are hard, and many days are filled with struggle, stress, and fatigue. But, in the end it is all worth it because I know that I've never worked harder at anything else before. When you feel a sense of self-worth, it makes you a better friend, girlfriend, daughter, sister...you get it.
Where do I go from here? I only hope up! Each day I hope to learn more about myself and this funny little journey called life. So until then...to be continued.
